Is it time to change the guard

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Have we reached, or are we at least near, the time to go back to how we started, in order to become great again? Our government is no longer our “guard”, but has now become our “overseer”. A lot of our “Creator given rights”, have been taken away by an overbearing government, filled with elitist, that think they have the right, not obligation, to dictate our every move. Maybe it’s time to set the countrys direction on a proper course, with a new, and people oriented guard, as it was designed to be from the start! “Of, for, and by the people”, not government officials. Does America still have the men with the fortitude to say once more, “Give me liberty, or give me death”?

How should a Christian view politics?

   One of the most difficult things I have had to come to grips with lately, given our current situation in America, is how should I as a Christian, feel, and react, to how our government is working today. I see a country that is in moral, and financial decline, at a much faster rate than I feel comfortable with.  My first inclination is to blame our elected officials, and they bear a great deal of it, but, “we”, elected, “them”, so, therein lies the main problem!

Here are some things I’ve found out through a bit of research.

   “There is no doubt that our responsibility to government is to obey the laws and be good citizens (Romans 13:1-2). God has established all authority and He does so for our benefit, “to commend those who do right” (1 Peter 2:13-15). Paul tells us in Romans 13:1-8 that it is the government’s responsibility to rule in authority over us—hopefully for our good—to collect taxes, and to keep the peace.”

“The Bible gives us two unassailable truths regarding our stance towards politics and government.”

   “The first truth is that the will of God permeates and supersedes every aspect of life. It is God’s will that takes precedence over everything and everyone (Matthew 6:33). God’s plans and purposes are fixed and His will is inviolable. What He has purposed, He will bring to pass, and no government can thwart His will (Daniel 4:34-35). A clear understanding of this truth will help us to see that politics is merely a method God uses to accomplish His will. Even though evil men abuse their political power, meaning it for evil, God means it for good, working “all things together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).”

   “Second, we must grasp the fact that our government cannot save us! Only God can. We never read in the New Testament of Jesus or any of the apostles expending any time or energy schooling believers on how to reform the pagan world of its idolatrous, immoral, and corrupt practices via the government. The apostles never called for believers to demonstrate civil disobedience to protest the Roman Empire’s unjust laws or brutal schemes. Instead, the apostles commanded the first-century Christians, as well as us today, to proclaim the gospel and live lives that would give clear evidence to its transforming power.”

   We, as Christians, sometimes fail to do the two things God directs us to do.

   First and foremost, we are to spread the gospel about God, and Jesus, our salvation. If we are out doing, what we should be doing, the way God wants us to, we will change the moral behavior because of people actually becoming more aware of what they may be doing, as sinful.
Second, and although not as important as the first, we fail to do the things necessary to have an efficient, and God fearing government in place. We need to do such things as, qualify, and vote for leaders, that most identify with what we believe as Christians.

“In the U.S.A., in recent elections, about 2 of every 5 of self-professed Christians took that right for granted and did not vote. About 1 in 5 self-professed, eligible Christians are not even registered to vote.”

   We as Christians, with the leadership of God, can boldly do, what no elected official on earth can do, give true “change” to America, by changing peoples attitudes through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!!!

Research your candidates, choose those with the characters you feel closest to doing what’s best for America, and what God would have them do under His leadership,
then vote!!

We do, after all, have to live here, till Jesus returns for us, why not make it a better place to be, until He does!!
